Driver Education Person of the Month
The Driver Education Person of the Month is
Chief David Perry, a strong advocate for traffic safety awareness both at the local and state levels. Under his leadership, the FSUPD has implemented several groundbreaking programs, including, but not limited to FSU's participation in Florida Road Safety Week, utilization of community awareness events such as the Stop DUI in 24 Hours bike ride, and SIDNE (Simulated Intoxicated Driving Experiece), leadership in the local DUI Strike Force, implementation of technologies for traffic enforcement such as handheld ticket writers, participation in the Florida Law Enforcement and DUI Enforcement Challenges, and more.
Chief Perry has encouraged his team to participate in many of the Dori Slosberg Foundation's programs and press events including the Geico Road Safety Bicycle Tour which has ensured their success. He is committed to a combination of sustained enforcement and education to reduce or eliminate injuries and deaths on Florida's roadways and on the Florida State University campus.

FLORIDA'S GRADUATED DRIVER LICENSING SYSTEM
15 Year Old Drivers
Phase 1- Learner's Permit
- 15 is the minimum age requirement for Learner's Permit.
- Drivers must always have a licensed driver 21 years or older in the closest seat to the right of the driver.
- For the first 3 months, driving is limited to daylight hours only.
- After 3 months, hours are extended to 10pm.
- Teen must hold Learner's Permit for 12 months conviction-free.
16 & 17 Year Old Drivers
Phase 2- Intermediate Operator's License
- Once teens receive an Operator's License driving hours are based on their age.
- At 16 driving is allowed between 6 am and 11 pm.*
- At 17 driving is allowed between 5 am and 1 am.*
- At any other time, 16 and 17 year old drivers must be accomplied by a licensed driver at least 21 years of age in the closest seat to the right, or be traveling to or from work
Dori Slosberg Driver Education Safety Act
318.1215 Dori Slosberg Driver Education Safety Act. — Effective October 1, 2002, notwithstanding the provisions of s. 318.121, a board of county commissioners may require, by ordinance, that the clerk of the court collect an additional $5 with each civil traffic penalty, which shall be used to fund driver education programs in public and nonpublic schools. The ordinance shall provide for the board of county commissioners to administer the funds, which shall be used for enhancement, and not replacement, of driver education program funds. The funds shall be used for direct educational expenses and shall not be used for administration. Each driver education program receiving funds pursuant to this section shall require that a minimum of 30 percent of a student's time in the program be behind-the-wheel training. This section may be cited as the "Dori Slosberg Driver Education Safety Act".
